I love being a mother.  I really do.  But there are days when I question the judgment of any adequately informed and properly forewarned woman who pre-meditatively embarks on the journey of motherhood.   Thousands of years of evidence suggests that motherhood is an endless, thankless and impossible-to-do-perfectly job that may ultimately have a better chance of producing a sociopath (4 percent) or incarceration-worthy criminal (2.3 percent) than the much preferred brain surgeon or President of the United States.

Seriously, who willingly signs up for that kind of gig?  What motivates a perfectly happy, healthy, safe and sane professional woman to gaze deeply into the loving eyes of her chosen partner and utter the words, “Let’s make a baby?”

Clearly, there are countless reasons.  But the one thing I know for sure is that no one can be truly prepared for the chaos, uncertainty and chronic fatigue that regularly define your days as a mother.  To survive and enjoy the process, you’ve got to find the funny.  Embrace the many moments of dysfunction.  And give yourself permission to be less than perfect.  This blog is my way of doing just that.  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I do writing it.

Finally, it’s probably important to let you know that as the oldest of three children myself, I live for feedback.  Also, I work from home and I need friends.  Seriously, it helps to know you’re not alone on the “How did I get here and why do these kids keep calling me Mom?” path that is parenthood.  It keeps you off the meds and away from the wine cabinet (until mid-afternoon, anyway).

So bring me your insolent teenagers, your charmingly honest eight year olds, and your Alpha Dogs yearning to run free.  If something makes you laugh, cry or irritates the 10th Circle of Hell right out of you, I want to hear about it.  And for goddess’ sake, if you find time to make the brownies, let me know what crumb-infested couch cushion you found it under.  I can’t remember where I put mine.
